Read all about it

After years in the making, last Summer, the Olympic games arrived at London and although there were many things which should have been handled differently in order for local businesses, for instance, to benefit from the arrival of visitors, there were also many success stories.

The Olympic opening ceremony was one of those. It blew everyone away and destroyed the cynical self that we all have living behind our ear. It was a beautiful event that remind us what is great in this country: plurality, multiculturalism, history, engineering, landscape, fashion, music…

For me, a series of very moving moments came in the hands of Emeli Sande as she sung “Read All About It Part 3”. The lyrics of that song seemed perfectly fitted to the occasion and reminded me of old English poems which she almost recited .

I have since heard this song many times and I still like the old fashion anthem style emerging from its lyrics. With all the events than have taken place along Europe in the past months I cannot imagine a better soundtract .

You’ve got the words to change a nation
But you’re biting your tongue
You’ve spent a life time stuck in silence
Afraid you’ll say something wrong
If no one ever hears it how we gonna learn your song?

You’ve got a heart as loud as lions
So why let your voice be tamed?
Baby we’re a little different
There’s no need to be ashamed
You’ve got the light to fight the shadows
So stop hiding it away

At night we’re waking up the neighbours
While we sing away the blues
Making sure that we remember yeah
Cause we all matter too
If the truth has been forbidden
Then we’re breaking all the rules

Lets get the tv and the radio
To play our tune again
It’s ’bout time we got some airplay of our version of events
There’s no need to be afraid
I will sing with you my friend

Yeah we’re all wonderful, wonderful people
So when did we all get so fearful?
Now we’re finally finding our voices
So take a chance, come help me sing this

Lyrics by Emeli Sande, “Read All About It Part 3”.
